CWE-476  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade torvalds/linux to version 5.10.271, 5.15.222, 6.1.189, 6.6.158, 6.12.111, 6.18.53, 7.2.7 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to NULL Pointer Dereference in the lowpan_newlink process. An attacker can cause a system crash by sending a crafted RTM_NEWLINK request that triggers a NULL pointer dereference when the device type is ARPHRD_IEEE802154 but the ieee802154_ptr is uninitialized.

Note: The Linux kernel project assigns a CVE to every bug fix it ships, whether or not the bug has been shown to be exploitable. This advisory was generated from that process and has not been individually assessed for exploitability. See the kernel's CVE process documentation: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/process/cve.rst
