CWE-476  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade torvalds/linux to version 5.10.271, 5.15.222, 6.1.189, 6.6.158, 6.12.111, 6.18.53 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Information Exposure in the btrfs_may_alloc_data_chunk function. An attacker can cause a kernel crash by triggering a scenario where a chunk item exists in the chunk tree without a corresponding block group in the in-memory cache, leading to a NULL pointer dereference during balance operations.

Note: The Linux kernel project assigns a CVE to every bug fix it ships, whether or not the bug has been shown to be exploitable. This advisory was generated from that process and has not been individually assessed for exploitability. See the kernel's CVE process documentation: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/process/cve.rst
