CVE-2026-97963  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-824  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade torvalds/linux to version 5.15.222, 6.1.189, 6.6.158, 6.12.111, 6.18.53, 7.2.7 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Access of Uninitialized Pointer in the stmmac_get_time function due to the use of an uninitialized ptp_lock. An attacker can cause undefined behavior or potentially escalate privileges by triggering code paths that access the lock before it is properly initialized.

Note: The Linux kernel project assigns a CVE to every bug fix it ships, whether or not the bug has been shown to be exploitable. This advisory was generated from that process and has not been individually assessed for exploitability. See the kernel's CVE process documentation: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/process/cve.rst
