CWE-400  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade torvalds/linux to version 5.10.271, 5.15.222, 6.1.189, 6.6.158, 6.12.111, 6.18.53, 7.2, 7.2.7 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Uncontrolled Resource Consumption in the do_close_on_exec process. An attacker can cause system deadlock or denial of service by triggering a situation where a hung or malicious filesystem blocks the execution flow while holding the exec_update_lock, potentially leading to a deadlock if a FUSE filesystem attempts to inspect the calling process.

Note: The Linux kernel project assigns a CVE to every bug fix it ships, whether or not the bug has been shown to be exploitable. This advisory was generated from that process and has not been individually assessed for exploitability. See the kernel's CVE process documentation: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/process/cve.rst
