CWE-400  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade torvalds/linux to version 5.10.271, 5.15.222, 6.1.189, 6.6.158, 6.12.112, 6.18.55, 7.2.9 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Buffer Overflow via the prb_calc_retire_blk_tmo function. An attacker can cause high CPU usage and system unresponsiveness by supplying crafted values to socket options, resulting in a timer firing at maximum rate and exhausting system resources. This is only exploitable if the attacker has CAP_NET_RAW privileges and access to a 1 Gbps network interface.

Note: The Linux kernel project assigns a CVE to every bug fix it ships, whether or not the bug has been shown to be exploitable. This advisory was generated from that process and has not been individually assessed for exploitability. See the kernel's CVE process documentation: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/process/cve.rst
