CWE-682  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade torvalds/linux to version 5.10.271, 5.15.222, 6.1.189, 6.6.158, 6.12.112, 6.18.55, 7.2.9 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Out-of-Bounds in the squashfs_comp_opts process when mounting a malformed SquashFS image with a COMP_OPTS flag set to 1 and a dictionary size of 0. An attacker can cause a shift operation to use an invalid exponent, leading to memory corruption or a crash by providing a specially crafted filesystem image.

Note: The Linux kernel project assigns a CVE to every bug fix it ships, whether or not the bug has been shown to be exploitable. This advisory was generated from that process and has not been individually assessed for exploitability. See the kernel's CVE process documentation: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/process/cve.rst
