CWE-617  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade torvalds/linux to version 6.18.56, 7.2.10 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Reachable Assertion in the vm_unmapped_area process due to improper alignment handling for hugetlb mappings on certain AMD processors. An attacker can cause a system crash by triggering a condition where the returned address is not properly aligned, leading to a kernel BUG check during huge page teardown. This is only exploitable if the system is running on AMD F15h processors such as Carrizo or FX-8370E.

Note: The Linux kernel project assigns a CVE to every bug fix it ships, whether or not the bug has been shown to be exploitable. This advisory was generated from that process and has not been individually assessed for exploitability. See the kernel's CVE process documentation: https://github.com/torvalds/linux/blob/master/Documentation/process/cve.rst
