CWE-295  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade wolfSSL/wolfssh to version 5.9.2 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Improper Certificate Validation in the wolfSSL_X509_verify_cert process when untrusted intermediate certificates are supplied by the caller and the build is configured with --enable-opensslextra and --enable-sessioncerts. An attacker can cause acceptance of an attacker-controlled certificate by presenting a certificate chain that does not reach a configured trust anchor. This is only exploitable if the application uses manual or deferred peer verification through this API with the specified build options.
