Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Out-of-bounds Read in the ext2_fetch_direntry function. An attacker can trigger out-of-bounds reads or cause a denial of service by providing a crafted ext2 image with malformed directory entries, leading to oversized name copies or infinite loops during directory traversal operations such as pathname lookup, stat, open, unlink, rename, or readdir. This is only exploitable if an attacker-controlled ext2 image is mounted from untrusted media.
