CWE-59  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

A fix was pushed into the master branch but not yet published.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Symlink Attack via the handling of ancillary file writes such as --log-file, --write-batch, or daemon-mode log and statistics paths. An attacker can overwrite arbitrary files by placing a symlink at a predictable output path and redirecting output to arbitrary filesystem locations. This can lead to local privilege escalation if the process runs with elevated privileges such as setuid or as a privileged daemon. This is only exploitable if the process is executed with elevated privileges.
