CWE-78  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade samba to version 4.24.3 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Command Injection via the check password script process when the unescaped '%u' substitution character is used. An attacker can execute arbitrary commands on the system by injecting shell meta-characters into the username. This is only exploitable if the samba-dcerpcd service is started as a system service and the non-default configuration with the vulnerable script is enabled. Active Directory Domain Controllers are not affected.
