CWE-476  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade samba to version 4.22.10, 4.23.8, 4.24.3 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to NULL Pointer Dereference in the WINS server component. An attacker can cause the service to crash by sending specially crafted UDP packets. This is only exploitable if the wins support = yes setting is enabled in the [global] section of the configuration file.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by disabling WINS support by removing the wins support = yes line from the configuration.
