CWE-732  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

There is no fixed version for samba.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Incorrect Permission Assignment for Critical Resource through the mkhomedir process in pam_winbind when it is enabled in the configuration. An attacker can cause ownership of critical system directories such as / to be changed by initiating a PAM session for an account whose home directory resolves to /, potentially resulting in denial of service affecting SSH, sudo, and package management. This is only exploitable if mkhomedir is explicitly enabled in pam_winbind.conf and a PAM session is opened for an account with a home directory set to / or another sensitive system path.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by not enabling mkhomedir in pam_winbind.conf on systems where any account may resolve to a home directory of / or another sensitive system path.
