CVE-2023-4091  (opens in a new tab)
CWE-706  (opens in a new tab)

How to fix?

Upgrade samba to version 4.17.12, 4.18.8, 4.19.1 or higher.

Overview

Affected versions of this package are vulnerable to Incorrect Access Control when the acl_xattr module is configured with acl_xattr:ignore system acls = yes. An attacker can truncate files, even with read-only permissions by exploiting the SMB protocol's ability to open files when the client requests read-only access but then implicitly truncates the opened file to 0 bytes if the client specifies a separate OVERWRITE create disposition request.

Workaround

This vulnerability can be mitigated by setting: acl_xattr:ignore system acls = no
